In 2001 I created the interactive installation Blind Game, a portrait of the artist as a young person (2001) as an individual exhibition for Quadrum Gallery in Lisbon. I presented an interactive game, twenty images and an artistical book. For this installation I used my own experience under the name of a character called P. This person, or I transformed into a character, was born in 1970 with problems of strabismus and myopia in the right eye. At the age of 3, P. wore a contact lens and a patch over the left eye that she decorated with different cartoons. At the age of five she had to leave school because the other kids called her General Spínola. General António de Spínola was appointed President of the Junta de Salvação Nacional following the revolution of April 25, 1974, in Portugal. After forty years of dictatorship Portugal was reborn to democracy.
At the age of six, P. had her first operation on her right eye. At the age of seven she had her second operation on her left eye. At eight years P. had to go to the orthoptist three times a week to do exercises on the treatment screens. Half an hour trying to get the lion into the cage and another half hour following a white star on a blue screen. P. often fell asleep with her face glued to the dark blue screen. At the age of thirteen, P. no longer wore glasses, lenses, drops or patches to cover her eyes, she had recovered 7 dioptres in ten years. The job was done! P. continued to see very poorly from her right eye. P. went to the ophthalmologist for the first time at 17 months. From that age on, every 2 months she went to the eye doctor.
