Description
CHAOS [Sonat 1.0, Movement 1.0]

is an art project by Sameh al Tawil 2021, which focuses on the visualisation of sound data.
The artist is improvising live piano sounds that are developed for a 2D/3D visual/s generation and responses, these produce when analysed in real time using OSC/MIDI transmission software developed originally for this performance.
With Chaos software, the phase and amplitude of Music signals can be illustrated and generated graphically.

CHAOS researches the potential to perceive the invisible multisubstance of data that penetrates our world.
It is a sequence of art experiments in diverse forms i.e audio-visual piano concerts, installations, digital paintings, Digital sculptures and soundtrack releases – that attempt to substantiate and visualise sonic data, Using OSC/MIDI data from Al Tawil’s digital piano as the main source for sound and
visuals.

CHAOS combines abstract and imitative representations of matters, space and time.
[Sonat 1.0] is the first audiovisual performance piece in the CHAOS series.

Through the projection of dynamic, computer-generated imagery in pared-down pastels with prominent color accents, the intense yet real-time graphic representations of data progress through multiple dimensions.

From 2D progressions of patterns derived from digital glitches and software codes, the images morph into dramatic, rotating views of an imaginary universe in 3D, while the final scenes reveal four-dimensional playful scenes with spectacular and seemingly infinite vistas. An Epic, energetic and hypnotic piano melodies refracts the visual language through a meticulous sequence of oriental soundscapes to create immense and seemingly unbounded acoustical spaces.

CHAOS [Sonata 1.0] is Driven by the primary principles of randomness and improvisation, the objective deconstruction of Al Tawil’s native art elements – sound, visuals, and even source codes – this creation builds a kind of meta-music-data in real-time-renderings and data scans are used to create an augmented new visual sequences that is a further abstraction of Al Tawil’s initial work.

The technical dynamics of the piece, such as the extremely fast frame rates and variable bit depths, challenge and exploration into the perceptual thresholds of the viewer.
The project will be premiered within Cairotronica 3rd edition festival [Data Fiction Exhibition] in AUC Tahrir cultural center, Cairo, Egypt 26.04 – 01.05.2021
