Description
Print on gold-plated steel

An UV print on gilded steel features a series of ornamental patterns. As in the project 'Violating Patterns (2014)', 'Concertina' adopts representations of NATO barbed wire models from the product catalogue of a market-leading manufacturer. The numbers assigned to the different models stand for the length of the blades in millimetres. The model “Concertina 22”, for instance, is used at the border facilities in the Spanish exclaves Ceuta and Melilla. Barbed wire, long since a symbol for the fortification of Europe’s outer borders, manifests as a graphic visual pattern.
