Tele-Touch explores the notion of human touch and telepresence in
a computer networked environment. It consists of a jacket equipped with
wireless touch output devices that allow the person wearing the jacket
to be touched by visitors to the Tele-Touch website.
Before wearing the jacket the participant at the physical location would use a computer station to log onto the Tele-Touch network by submitting their name, gender and having their picture taken.
The visitor to the Tele-Touch Web site has a similar log-in procedure.
Once signed in the user is prompted to select a desired type of touch: public, friendly or intimate. Thereafter, they can click on different parts of the jacket displayed on the screen and submit a touch.
The electronic touch is then executed over the network and the person in
the physical space feels the simulated touch.
Only once the touch has been executed the identities of both participants are revealed.
