In Irvin Kershner's movie "Eyes of Laura Mars" from 1978, photographic artist Laura Mars experiences visions of the murder of her friends and colleagues as seen through the eyes of the murderer. The protagonist of Janet Cardiff's internet project, Laura, is a bored security guard in Vancouver waiting for something to happen. With a diary, photographs, video and audio clips she documents the things happening around her in the net. The user can skip through the diary entries or even direct the four security cameras which are real: They belong to the Vancouver Art Gallery and show what is going on there in real-time. A mysterious story unfolds as Laura witnesses a theft- and once again, idiosyncratic for Cardiff's work, the ficticious and the real are superimposed.
