Situated in an old church, this museum shows the wide array of exclusive and shared Russian expeditions into the Antarctic and especially the Arctic and remains to be the largest museum dedicated to polar exploration in the world. It was established in November 1930 as part of the Soviet Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, but was not opened until six years later.
