The 'Quotes' series brings forward questions regarding research ethics and responsibility in science. Landscape format PCB blanks become image carriers; their motifs and quotations, composed in monochrome black or white, had been collected as research material for the mixed reality installation 'COMBATscience Augmented' (2018).

"Algorithms are opinions embedded in code." Quote from Cathy O'Neil, mathematician; "The era of blind faith in big data must end", published in April 2017. Illustration: Algorithm/Code
"Risiko = Schaden × Wahrscheinlichkeit." Risk matrix; risks are defined by the variable's probability and damage, e.g. extent of damage. Illustration: Bird Flu Virus (H7N9)
"Wir haben es nicht getan!" Quote from Robert Musil, author, "Die Nation als Ideal und als Wirklichkeit", 1921. Illustration: German blasting attack on the Eastern Front; Russian aerial photo
"We cannot outsource the moral responsibility to third parties." From an open letter from 3,100 Google workers, published in early 2018 and addressed to Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The context was the cooperation of Google with the Pentagon on the drone project "Maven". Illustration: Bacillus anthracis
