Description
This piece is about a personal memory from my hometown, the small city of Heidenheim in the rural south of Germany.
My favourite intersection is located on Schnaitheimer Straße, at the top where the old customs office is situated. One day the original set of traffic lights was replaced with a roundabout, upon which, to my recollection, quite a few accidents occurred.
Subsequently, Voith, a local company determined to celebrate the aesthetics of technological progress, placed an enormous turbine shovel in its centre.
Whether this changed anything, I never found out. Suddenly, the object, along with the roundabout, was again removed and replaced with a jungle of road signs and traffic lights.
The direction in which the one-way street signs point will continue to surprise and delight drivers.
