Comment
Why EK Modernism matters? was a conference paper and discussion that examined the legacies of the net artwork (EKnewTown.com). This pioneering net artwork enabled residents and visitors anywhere in the world to explore East Kilbride first hand by exploring street avenues and neighbourhoods. EKNewTown.com was one of the first projects to virtualise a town prior to the launch of mapping services such as Google Streetview. See the project's first critical review in Rhizome at http://rhizome.org/editorial/2006/jun/2/new-tools-for-new-towns/ While East Kilbride no longer exists in relation to its original Modernist educational and amenity buildings; EK Modernism acts as a surrogate garnering its position as both art and visual archive about these built places that have since disappeared
