European Media Art Festival 2008

EMAF-European Media Art Festival, Osnabrück
We had reason to celebrate: the European Media Art Festival was held this year for the 25th time, and has therefore been presenting the current trends of the international media scene in Osnabrück each spring for a quarter of a century.Of course the festival also focused of the topic of its anniversary: a series with a retrospective character entitled "Now and Then" was screened at the festival’s cinemas. Artists have presented not only their latest works, but also oeuvres presented years ago at EMAF to highlight the developments and changes occurring in Media Art.Also the Congress marked the anniversary: renowned speakers, e.g. Peter Weibel or Gerhard Johann Lischka, addressed the general change in the use of media, the impact it has on artistic work and on the significance of networks, offering an outlook on the future of Media Art.In addition, the Congress also offered content of a topical political nature: the revolutions in the Arab region repeatedly made headlines across the globe. Presentations dealt with the creative protest in both Syria and Egypt.EMAF 2012 presented a film selection of more than 160 films ("Record"), the Congress ("Rethink"), an exhibition ("Revolve") and the Media Campus ("Refresh").
