Comment

In a time characterised by the loss of utopia and by major social and political change, creativity was called for – this was where artistic and philosophical concepts became increasingly important for creating new perspectives. Not the answer, but rather the search for it and the way there were the decisive factors. In 1993, the festival offered various programmes that aimed to encourage debate, enabling new perspectives to be created: in "Odyssee", a multimedia event, actors and spectators set out together to "search for a new art". The topic of the symposium "Radical Constructivism" provided theoretical approaches that required interdisciplinary thinking.The exhibition presented interactive art where artists and visitors were able to initiate creative processes together; in the workshops held at EMAF 1993, computer-aided editing systems were introduced in product demonstrations and practical exercises. Furthermore, an overview of current CD-ROM productions was given, a medium that, embraced by the term multimedia, had undergone a rapid development in recent years.
