George Legrady has been creating interactive digital media installations and projects since the early 1990's. He is best known for his projects focuses on the classification and visualization of data as in “Pockets Full of Memories” (2001) commissioned by the Centre Pompidou, Paris; “Slippery Traces” (1996) published by the ZKM Center for Media & Technology Museum in Karlsruhe, Germany, and the award winning “Anecdoted Archive from the Cold War (1993). George Legrady is Professor of Digital Media in the Media Arts & Technology (MAT) Graduate program at the University of California, in Santa Barbara.

George Legrady (Hungary, Canada, USA) is Distinguished Professor in the Media Arts & Technology Ph.D program at UC Santa Barbara where he directs the Experimental Visualization Lab. His research, pedagogy and artistic practice address the impact of computation and software design as a form of narrative construction. A pioneer in the field of digital media arts with an emphasis on digital photography, data visualization, interactive installation, machine-learning and natural language processing, his projects have been presented as publications, digital media arts installations, and various other forms of visualization that have featured in both the fine arts institutions, digital media fields and engineering conferences:

Research and projects have been supported by National Science Foundation grants, National Endowment of the Arts, Creative Capital Foundation Emerging Trends, Graham Foundation Advanced Studies in Fine Arts, the Canada Council for the Arts, and other awards. He was a recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in 2016.

His works are in numerous museum collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Canada, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, musée d’art contemporain, Montreal, the ZKM (Center for Art & Media), the Smithsonian institution, and others.
