About

Snow Yunxue Fu is a US-based Chinese-born New Media Artist, Curator, and Assistant Arts Professor in the Department of Photography and Imaging at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Using topographical computer-rendered images and installations, her practice merges historical, post-photographic, philosophical, and painterly explorations into the universal aesthetic and definitive nature of the techno sublime.

With a background in painting, Fu remains the youngest artist collected by the National Art Museum of China. She sees her transition into new media as a natural extension of her conceptual research in which she draws parallels between the physical, metaphysical, digital, and multi-dimensional spaces. Fu’s artwork has been shown internationally in solo shows, group exhibitions, screenings, and festivals including the New York Gallery of Chinese Art, New York; Venice Architecture Biennale, Venice, Italy; Pioneer Works, New York; NADA Art Fair, New York; Sediton, Hong Kong; Arebyte Gallery, London, UK; Shenzhen Independent Animation Biennale, Shenzhen, China; Current Museum of Art, New York, Thoma Art House, Santa Fe; Currents Santa Fe New Media Art Festival, New Mexico; The Wrong Biennale, the Internet, and etc. Her work has also been collected by the Currents Museum of Art in New York.

Her work reviews and interviews have been covered in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, Arebyte on Screen, Sedition, the St. Louis Magazine Art Review, Guangzhou Today’s Focus in China, and etc. She participated in residencies such as the Hatch Residency through the Chicago Artist Coalition, Biocultura Residency in Santa Fe NM, Lexington and Concord Artist Residency in Illinois, and Estudio Nómada’s Mas els Igols Residency in Barcelona, Spain. She has given lectures and presented on her work and research in conferences, symposiums, and institutions around the world including International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA), SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH Asia in Brisbane Australia, the Chinese-American Art Faculty Symposium, Veritas Forum, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University of Chicago, and China Academy of Art.

Final Mesh
Final mesh is an amalgamation of experimental moving image, computer graphics and atmospheric design. It is an exhibition that surveys reality through shifting perspectives, and algorithmic pleasures - all the while challenging narrative modes. The show examines the limitations of physical media, and ventures beyond into a realm of sensorial liberation - one that both embraces and overwhelms the participant. Each work goes beyond the digital imaging, generating space and media untethered by the confines of gallery walls. Mainly using software Maya and Realflow to emphasize the atmospheric scenes into the artworks. By understanding the nature of software, artists expand their art territories with achieving shape of aqueous element in their work. The screening features the School of Art Institute of Chicago students works from Fu’s Spring 2019 Atmospheric Animation course.

Con(Troll)ed
We are virtual and virtuality is us. Con(troll)ed is a unique 3D animation screening exploring the relationship(s) between and among the body and technology. How do the two interact, reflect, and converge? and how is that being perceived by you and itself? Featuring artists from numerous artistic backgrounds, Con(troll)ed will showcase the past, future, and the now in endless perspectives. The screening is organized by the students and features student final works from Fu’s Fall 2018’s Digital Bodies Performed class.

Future Fluid
Future Fluid is a media screening of artist's work, using experimental 3D animation techniques and fluid simulation software, to explore the future of art. Über-Marionettes
Über-Marionettes is a public Experimental 3D Animation screening program showcasing works that concentrate on animation techniques utilizing bodily forms, prefabricated models, key-framed animation, as well as motion capture data. Drawing from theatrical, performative, cinematic, sculptural, and game practices, the works exhibited explore the capabilities of 3D software to create and activate personas while juxtaposing the relation between author and actor, body and self. The screening is organized by the students and features student final works from Fu’s Fall 2017’s Digital Bodies Performed class.
