Dr Fahrudin Nuno Salihbegovic is a theatre director, visual/sonic artist, interaction designer, and lecturer, specialising in multimedia theatre and interactive digital arts. His work, including theatre productions, digital scenographies, and interactive video/sound installations, has been performed and exhibited internationally; in, amongst others: London (Tate Britain, Queen’s House, National Maritime Museum), Cambridge (Cambridge University Concert Hall), Newcastle (Culture Lab), Amsterdam (STEIM), Berlin (La Giraffe), Sarajevo (SARTR), Belgrade (VUK), Novi Sad (Serbian National Theatre), Bologna (ifsARTS).
In 2008, he obtained a PhD in Theatre Studies, from Brunel University, London. His doctoral work was a practice-led research in multimedia theatre, digital performance and interaction design. His thesis Directing Cyber Theatre was published as augmented book in 2013. Previously, he graduated from DasArts (Advanced Research in Theatre and Dance), Academy of Arts, Amsterdam.
Fahrudin is the founder and Artistic Director of the Studio for Electronic Theatre (SET) – an international group of artists, engineers, and theorists, dedicated to research, production, and education in the field of digital performance arts and multimedia theatre (www.setlab.eu). SET’s projects (including three international co-productions with the companies and cultural institutes from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Serbia) have been funded by: University of Greenwich Research and Enterprise Fund, European Cultural Foundation, UNESCO, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Academica (Belgrade), Serbian Ministry of Culture, and Pro Helvetia (Swiss Arts Council).
Since joining the University of Greenwich in 2009, he led a number of collaborative research projects, the results of which have been presented at both professional and academic conferences, the most recent being the AHRC funded Real-Time Visuals conference (Newcastle, 2014), presenting key advancements in real-time graphics and video processing; and the International Meeting of Contemporary Scenography (Bologna, 2012), organised by the Study Centre for Scenic Arts, gathering artists from the contemporary opera/theatre design, performing multimedia and architecture.
