Station Rose/STR was founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1988 by Gary Danner (sound) and Elisa Rose (visuals).
As one of the first digital groups worldwide Station Rose have used the potential of live audio visual media and the internet for performing in their work. Their Gunafa Clubbings were the first AV- and online-clubprojects worldwide (Frankfurt 1992). STR are online since 1991 and are regarded as pioneers of media art.
At reaching their Digital Quarter Century in 2013 they focus on "New Media Arte Povera", adding recycling and haptic objects to their installations. Sound meets wood and text, uses reliable structures like Techno, Psychedelic and Minimal Music; the ancien régime of hitech DAWs has been challenged by field recordings and lo-res apps.
Important stations of their career so far: Gunafa Clubbing since 1988; field research in Cairo 1988/89; STR in Frankfurt a.M. 1991-2011; artist contract with Sony Music 1996; social web/Electric Minds 1996; live A/V Webcastings 1999; professorship "Media Production" University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt 2002-2004; "Best of Webcasting" TV Show at ARD Digital 2002-2006; LogInCabin/20 Digital Years 2008; Digital Quarter Century (diverse activities) 2013;
Station Rose received the City of Linz Lifetime Award 2012 for their artistic work.
"Station Rose put Techno in a sliding scale of forms and responses“ (The WIRE).
"*The Vienna duo here are indestructible. They’re like a flourishing rosebush growing out of a cement sidewalk crack. Every wannabe tech-artist should study their efforts and see how they just plain invented themselves and their milieu."
