Marikki Hakola is a media artist, director, producer, reseacher. Hakola studied at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki in 1980-1984, making the degree of visual artist. Hakola started working with video and performance at 1982, acting as a pioneer of Finnish video art. Ever since then, Hakola has realized several video works, multimedia works, audiovisual projects, spacial projects as well as performances as an independent artist and producer. Hakola is known internationally as a pioneer of European media art. Her works are present at the collections of several international art museums and archives. Installations by Hakola have been presented widely at domestic and international art museums and institutions. Hakola has also acted as a pedagogue of media art in the Finnish art universities and as a producer as well as a cultural-political actor within the scene of cinema and media art in Finland.
