Works made with and existing in the context of networked systems, meant to be accessed via network protocols. This term is not used to refer to reproductions of art made in other media that is represented on Web sites or online media. 'Web art' is considered a separate concept, as net art may use protocols other than the World Wide Web. Some argue that net art is independent of technology, and is defined only as work that uses systems or social situations as the medium, but the majority of these works exist in the context of computer networking systems.
